online colouring pages... A question

Post by DiamondDust on Fri Nov 13, 2009 5:21 am

I hope this is the right place to post this as I have not seen a thread for it. I have read the other questions and don't believe it has been asked, and if it has I am sorry I must have missed it. Who actually owns the copyright to online coloring pages and are we allowed to use them for tubes and scrap kits? If so how is it credited? I know it kind of sounds stupid but it is something I have just come across.

Thanks for any help
Mary

It depends on how the image was obtained. If it comes from a coloring book (a publication) there should be information within the publication on who owns the rights/copyright to images. Coloring books are like anything else, someone does own the rights to the images. If say someone scanned these images, they don't have copyright, either the artist does, or the publishing company that produced the book does. Coloring books are often thought of as being public domain, they aren't. Be weary of images that you believe to be nothing more than scans & are offered at a website, scanning an image doesn't give the person copyright or rights to the image. However, if these are images that the hand done by the individual who is offering them (i.e... they are the copyright holder), any terms of use to the images should be supplied by them, or you would need to contact them on specific details about use.
